Visitors from near and far

Usually when my mum comes to visit I'd consider it a visit from afar, since for her it is an 8 hour trip by bus and train. But I had the chance to meet a friend from much further afield last week, when Roxie and her husband Kyle came to Sydney, all the way from Oregon in the US! A 28 hour trip, Roxie told me!

I had a lovely lunch with them, along with Janette and her husband Marc, and Grandma Flea, last Friday. And received gifts too - I shall have fun picking out some recipes to try from this book!
A really lovely day, thanks Janette for organising!

And this week my mum is here - because she's quite sure we needed her help in getting things organised for Teddy's arrival. (And she's quite right!). For those wondering about her reaction to the shawl, here's how it played out:

I spread it along the foot of the bed in the spare bedroom - the bed has a plain red quilt cover on it, so the shawl didn't really stand out too much. She went in there to put her handbag down, and I was standing in the doorway behind her waiting for her to notice it and grinning like an idiot. Of course, she didn't see it straight away, but did see me grinning at her, and wanted to know why I was standing there grinning at her!! So then she figured something was up and looked all around the room and I thought she was never going to see it! But then she did, and her hand flew to her open mouth and she couldn't speak for a minute! Then just repeated "I can't believe it! I can't believe it! I can't believe it!". Kind of funny, since that's almost what I called the post about it too! (does that mean I'm turning into my mother? Ooooh scary!)

visitors from Oregon would have been novel, particularly when they bear gifts!

am so glad your mum responded appropriately to her shawl too - imagine if she'd just said "Oh, lovely"??

how much longer til Teddy's arrival now? Can't be long?

Yay for mum's who help! I'd like to think that I'm one of those; although my DD only lives half a city from me! My mum came twelve hours to help me - pity I had DD the next day (two weeks early!!)

And what a clever way to surprise her - well done!

Sigh - wonderful! Mothers sometimes have the knack of saying just the right thing at the right time....

How exciting. Setting up the nursery is fun and a nice thing to have a mother around for.

I wouldn't have been able to stand there and wait. I'd have had to say something.

As time goes on, you will hear more and more things your mother said, flying out of your mouth.

Sometimes our son gives me the exact eyeroll I remember using on my mother.

It's so nice that your mom had such a satisfying reaction. And so nice that she wants to help!

I can just imagine your mum's reaction - it must have felt so great for you. I am sure she will enjoy wearing the shawl for a long time to come.

I write this while giggling at your remark "does that mean I'm turning into my mother", sure does girl. We all say I am not going to be like my mother and I love my mother dearly and it wouldn't be so bad being like her, but there are some traits I would rather just be my mothers and not mine. You will notice it more as your children grow and become older teenagers and young adults, then it really shows. Enjoy being you while it lasts. hahahaha.
