Books! I've read some books!

Sorry about the blog silence - although I was pleased to see that I have actually posted this month - until I logged in to post this, I had the impression that I hadn't posted at all this month.  I had forgotten about the red vest!  That's how bad my memory has gotten lately.  Oh dear!

I have been on a bit of a Roald Dahl kick lately.  About two months ago I bought a collection of Roald Dahl audiobooks (on CD) - they were on big sale at a bookstore, no doubt due to the impending obsolescence of CD's!  I haven't read much Dahl until now, just both the Charlie books.  I thought the CD's would be great for the car, and Connor will enjoy them too (eventually!)

So far, I have "read":
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (picturing of course Johnny Depp, who was so great in the movie!)
Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator
The Twits (Dahl is so good at creating such abhorrent people!)
Matilda (loved!)
George's Marvellous Medicine
The Fantastic Mr Fox (mmmm George Clooney), and
The Enormous Crocodile.

Loving the audiobooks in the car!

I wonder if we have the same RD set? I have an orange case that has them - must get them onto my ipod!

I love the twits. Every time I see a man with food trapped in his beard I think of Mr Twit!

James and the Giant Peach is a big favourite of mine but you can't go past Charlie and Mr Fox, can you?

My daughter has been reading the RD books too. Her favourites are the Twits and the Witches. I love it when my children cant stop reading novels.

Matilda was a fun movie, too. But Connor will have to be a little bit older...

I, too, have been "reading" audio books from the local library interchanging adult books with children's books. the latest was "Little Lord Fauntleroy". Good to have while I'm pottering, knitting or sewing.

Dahl's "The BFG" was always very popular in my Year 4 classroom.

I like his autobiographical books best (they begin with Boy, I think). My son just read Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and I told him I'd try to track down the movie, but I was thinking of Gene Wilder--that's the one I want to find for him. The libraries all have his books out right now--October had a Roald Dahl day, I think?

Yay for audio books and the characters - BFG is still my favourite!

I always think about Gene Wilder first from the Willie Wonka 70s movie, and THEN I remember the Johnny Depp version. I love both of them.

I have a long commute, so audio books from the library are an absolute lifesaver.

Good for you reading. Love to do it myself, and just remember (that is if you can)losing your memory comes with being a Mom. It is all part of Motherhood and I think it starts as soon as you get pregnant.

If you want to read any of his obscure books or see any of the movies or borrow a biography or something, just let me know. I'm kind of a mega Dahl fan.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is one of my favorite movies as a child, I have very fond memories of it. Now my little one has quite a few of Dahl's books and he loves them. I used to read them to him but now he reads them himself, they are so timeless aren't they as is Johnny Depp ;D
I'm sure Connor will love them as much as you do.

Yes, Roald Dahl ( "His mother couldn't spell Ronald", I saw that on a funny TV show once!!!) is great and children really love his books. He knows what they like. Try Danny the Champion of the World, The Witches, The BFG, Esio Trot and The Vicar of Nibbleswicke!!!

Roald Dahl is an absolute favourite in our household too - his adult short stories are amazing (and often macabre) too!
