Emergency knitting - phew!

I don't know about you but I keep an emergency/long term knitting project in a ziplock bag (well, duh!) in the car - not for when I'm driving, clearly, but for those times when husby picks me up after work, or we are driving home from a night out or whatever. So basically, it's night time knitting generally - garter stitch all the way (because if I know I'm going in the car during the day, I always bring a project to work on). I have a little booklight which I clip onto the lap part of my seatbelt, and away I go. (Why, yes, I am a knitting nerd!!)On the weekend, I found myself with 45 minutes to spare, waiting for my mum to arrive at Central Station, with none of my usual knitting with me. So I jumped in the car and away I went on the emergency project.

And now I've finished it. Well, the main knitting portion of it anyway:
I just have to sew it up (using all those ends - is that bad??) and I plan to knit a garter stitch border around it with mitred corners. So who knows how long it will be until I actually finish this (which I started, by the way, in January 2006!!!)

And for those who asked, this will tell what a Magic 8 ball is - the ball of Lurve is just a variation with "love" related answers!

That is a great blanket. I love the colors and the stripes. What a good idea to keep some knitting in the car for those times when you are waiting for someone. I hate sitting in parking lots waiting and having nothing to do.

Goodness me you are an organised little bunny aren't you? I've long admired that blanket and think you are a marvel for thinking of keeping a knitting project in the car for emergencies.

that's a beautiful blanket!

I admire your forward planning with the car knitting. I am the only driver in my little household so it wouldn't really work for me. I almost always have a book with me, which works out well, since my book stash is certainly more out of control than my knitting stash!

Though of course there are times when knitting is appropriate (can still chat) and reading is not.

What a great idea and a great blanket. I never leave home without my knitting either. I don't care who thinks I'm a nerd.

I LOVE that!!! It will be of great use and last forever I'm sure, a treasure really. Did you use the same yarn or different yarns?

What amazing project dedication! It looks wonderful.
(I love car-trip knitting too.)

Hehe, I can just imagine you clipping a little booklight to your seatbelt! Lovely blanket, btw.

The blanket looks great but the sewing of the ends frighten me. That's a good idea of clipping a light to the seat belt - now I can knit in the dark. Thanks.

knitting nerd? uhn uhn. i hearby crown you Queen Of Knitting Organization.

okay that's not a very swishy title is it. but between this and the knitting notebook and the labeled zip lock bags you are truely amazing!

the blanket is beautiful by the way. and the shadows on the photo great too.

as for the ends - i use them for sewing together all the time. so if it's bad, i guess we are bad together.

Oh, I love it!! Is it for you to snuggle under? I hope so.

I would definitely use the ends to weave in--that saves a step.

I need simple projects to keep in the car!

WOW - it's fabulous! What great colors!!

Your not "supposed" to use the ends to weave... but I do it all the time. Except on sweaters - but on a blanket go for it!

What a brilliant idea - and love the clip on light solution, too! The blanket looks so cosy and warm :)

Gorgeous blanket! I love the warm colors and the stripes every now and again. Good luck with the seaming.

Also, I am humbled by the greatness of your knitting nerdiness.

Only if "nerd" is code for "brilliant". How many times I've either run back into the house for knitting or forgotten it altogether in the crush of baby bag, snacks for kids, changes of clothes for messy boy, books, toys, drinks, camera.....I'm a scorpio too and my favorite color is also red. Gorgeous blanket. I admire your planning!
