WOW Day 4: Garbo

All my GAAK yesterday was a bit too much...for today's project I have taken a number of shortcuts. Only time will tell whether they are evidence of growth, overconfidence or just plain laziness.

Today's project is a relatively simple (but I hope classic) vest, in the 100% merino sock yarn, in what is, to my eye, the best red ever! It's an almost solid, called Herzblut. Oh this red...it is truly divine! The pattern is another from the lovely Rowan 44, called Garbo (Ravlink).

Well, I decided it made much more sense to knit this in the round than flat. Woo hoo, no purling! Unfortunately, it did mean casting on 328 stitches. I wish I'd timed myself, because I'd be interested to know how long it takes to cast on that many stitches. Not that I'm planning on doing it again soon...

And after starting the stitch pattern (and mucking it up...omg I wish I'd timed myself when I was tinking 164 stitches...) I realised that instead of doing the (3 normal knit, 3 ktbl) repeat ad nauseum, I could just knit the lot! Surely the twisted stitch lines aren't going to make that much difference...

Only time will tell...because unfortunately the pictures don't show much yet - it takes a dang long time to do these rounds!! Only 40cm (16") more to go...until the armhole shaping!! Gah!

I would persevere. I think the twisted stitch columns will differentiate better from the lace columns than plain knit columns would. (but just guessing).

Sometimes it is better not to know how long the 'undo' takes ...

you are undertaking some big stuff this week. I'm exhausted just thinking about that one. And the hertzblut is stunning!

I totally believe in the value of fudging... as will be evident in my current project. Good luck! The colour will make it go faster... right?

Oh, that is a cute pattern! It reminds me of... of... gosh I can't think of it! OH, GOT IT! Elvira, all grown up. Very cute. And I am so impressed that you counted correctly on the very first try! AND didn't twist the knitting on the first round. Because that's what I do EVERY time I try to make a sweater in the round. Often several times each sweater...

I keep wanting to read that word as Herlbutt. It's a lovely red, and I am SO impressed that you are going to knit a whole vest in sock yarn!

That is going to be a long term project! Lovely strong red. I sometimes wonder if it would freak me out to know just how long a project has taken to complete, especially a big one! Good luck with this one and the rest of your new WIP's

Wow this is another big one great pattern in a fabulous colour. I really like the ktbl effect it does hold its line better (In my eye) but I have done lace and cable without and most people tell me they can't tell the difference.

Nice vest - Love the way this is going

My 2 skeins of Kerzblut are likely to become either a featherweight or flutter cardi......

Just thinking about 328 stitches makes my fingers ache! Yet another gorgeous, rich red. So sumptuous. I like the purl rows - I can purl twice as fast as I can knit!
