WIP Wednesday: Personal Sock Club

I can't believe my optimism at the start of this year - putting 12 packages of yarn away for my personal sock club 2009. I'm only up to package #5!!! Oh dear! Well, I think if I can knit up half the packages by the end of this year I'll be quite happy. (It's not like I haven't knit other socks this year too). And then I'll still have 6 lovely packages waiting for me in 2010.

So here's package #5. What is it, I hear you all wondering?
Ta da!! ShibuiKnits Sock yarn, in "pebble". Quite variegated, and a very different colour range than that I normally go for. Oh well, nothing wrong with a bit of variety. Or maybe these will end up as a gift for someone.
I had only one pattern idea for these when I put them in the package at the start of the year, and that is the pattern I've decided to go with.

Yes, No-purl Monkeys. A very nice variation on the Cookie A pattern from Knitty. I like this very much. Only 4 pattern rows out of 11.
Easy to remember and quick to knit. Just what I need right now!

How good do they look! Wow. I've meant to do no purl monkeys for a while - totally great pattern for that yarn!

i meant to add I always had a slight love-hate relationship with the purl sections in monkeys when done with variegated yarn. This totally looks better.

yes this is much better with the no purls. im going to copy cat these too at some point. and monkeys are the best for this type of yarn, no question!

Oooh, they're looking nice, you might not want to give them away once they're finished!

I really like blue/grown combinations - though I agree this is a bit of a departure from your usual colour choices. And I'm so pleased you've not altogether abandoned your 2009 PSC.

That should, of course, be 'blue/brown' combinations. I really regret not learning to type properly at some formative part of my life!

oh, that is a magic combo of pattern and yarn - how good do they look??!! such beautiful colours...

you're doing better than me in the PSC - I think I've only managed 3-4 :(

and now I've gone and joined knitabulous' sock&lace club!!

Wow! stunning.
You've just convinced me that I do need to actually knit some monkeys. Those colours are amazing!

Those socks are gorgeous. Love your work :)

They're beautiful! I think the whole PSC was such a great idea - even if you don't get to all of them, you are getting to some of them, and forcing impulsive sock yarn buyers like me to really see just how many socks it is actually possible to get to in a year! It might even make me slow down my buying. Eh. Probably not. But still.

I've only done 4 so far this year! I still like the idea but other things got in the way. I've still made many pairs of socks but let my brown bags alone. It's been so long since I set them up, I can't remember what I put in them so they will be a surprise when I open them.

I really like the colors you chose. This is the first time I've seen a pair of purlless monkeys and I like them. Although, I must admit, I don't find purling as onerous as some people.

Oh boy!! Love those colors. I knit some monkeys a while back for my sister but would definitely try the no purl version. The look great.

Those are colors I wouldn't normally choose, either, but the sock is very pretty and looks like it would go with a lot of clothes.

It's good to occasionally use something from outside your normal color ranges. It refreshes your artistic eye. And this is such a pleasing departure.

Gorgeous yarn! You're doing much better than I would if I had a personal sock club going on -- I've only knit 1 pair this year.

I think the first blue-brown yarn I saw was on WendyKnits, a hand-dye to match her cat. So now I always think of blue-eyed Siamese cats when I see those blue-brown combinations.

Well, they will be gorgeous, even if they're not red. I've never seen purl-free monkeys before, they look great! These are the colors one of my friends picked for her wedding last year, and they look quite nice together.

the color makes me think of the desert or the outback or a day at the beach. all lovely associations. and i think the pattern and yarn are a perfect match.

And looking very lovely they are too!

Oh they are fabulous - a wonderful pattern/yarn combo - it's looking more beautiful in the sock than in the skein which is so not always the case with variegated yarns.

Love the way they look. Gorgeous yarn, lovely pattern.
