Koolhaas

I'm pretty pleased with my efforts on the monthly goals lists in my sidebar. I've now finished my February goals! Heh, only 6 weeks late! But I'm doing well on March, and even April.

Including this little bit of lovely:
Details
Pattern: Koolhaas by Jared Flood, Interweave Knits Holiday 2007 edition. A very popular pattern for good reason - it just looks so fantastic.
Yarn: Mmmmmmmalabrigo worsted in Sealing Wax, about 70g. What can I say - a fabulous yarn which deserves all the praise it gets. Yum.
Sticks: 4.5mm and 5.5mm KnitPicks Harmony Options - I went up a stick size from those recommended - I do wonder if I should have done this, as the hat is marginally large for me. Not ridiculously large, but it possibly could be a tad smaller. In the end, I think it's ok!
Time: 29 March - 6 April 2008
What I learnt: I re-learnt how to cable without a cable needle (using Grumperina's excellent tutorial). This is definitely a project where that is a good skill to have, particularly given that you cable on every 2nd row, with every 4th row being cabled the entire way around.
(why yes, I did take this picture of the top of my head. It only took me about 5 tries to get one of my head, not the wall of the house, the table, etc!) Love this hat!

Oh, wait - I have to stop giggling first about shooting the wall, the table, etc. instead of your head as intended. Cuz trust me, I KNOW how it is! Congrats on those mad skillz! And the hat is so awesome! That has been in my list of things to make, but then winter (here) started to be over, and I pushed it back. I think I"ll bring it forward again, though - yours looks so cute. (And hey, look! I beat Bells here!)

Oh well done. Aren't you so clever taking your own aerial shot! Fantastic.

I plan to get over how pissed off I was with the pattern and start again soon.

Oh and Rachel, Sean is sitting next to me chuckling at your comment.

Nice work RoseRed!

Oooh, Bells, I was annoyed with the pattern, too! I seem to think it could have been written better, so that it actually told you to slip, or knit the second stitch in first, or something--it's been a while since I looked at it--and translating all that hold on cable needle back or front into cabling without a needle was hurting my brain at the time. Weren't they all one or two stitch cables? See, fuzzy brain. But I remember thinking it could have been much clearer.

So, I'm not sure I'm going back to it anytime soon! My brain's only getting fuzzier.

Photography may have to be your next passion!!! The hat is great and I love the subtle mixed colors of red. That hat is on my list too.

It's gorgeous! Such a bright, cheerful color.

Such a great pattern, and it is so pretty in that color. It's amazing how much the Sealing Wax varies from dye lot to dye lot. Almost makes me want to knit another even though it's finally Spring here.

I keep coming back to look at it because it's so pretty - I want to knit with my red malabrigo but maybe not the hat. Something else. Must go in search of one skein of malabrigo projects!

Oh I love it - I can see the Malabrigo I have which was planned for a hot water bottle cover being repurposed!

On LeftiesK2's site, there's photos of some clear wellies she's located. She's wearing her Monkey socks and the boots show them off a treat. Between your knitted boots and her clear ones, I can see that knitters are now going to have to be suitably decked out to Represent this winter!

It's beautigul and I love that it's made from Malabrigo [my favourite wool at the moment].

Its great, the colour is a must have I think!

That pattern had intimidation written all over it! I have made cables successfully before but wasn't sure if I wanted to mess with that one. Maybe I'll give it a try for next winter. Yours looks so pretty.

Gorgeous hat! And I'm very impressed by your ability to take your own modeled shots, I had trouble just doing my feet.

I love the knitted boots from your last post! Seeing those made me intensely jealous, they would've come in handy the past few months.

That is such a great pattern, but then again isn't everything by brooklyntweed great? I want to make one for myself, but I'll probably wait until it cools off here. Anyway, yours is lovely!

Nice job on the pics, too.

Love the hat! And it's great to see how good it looks in red, because I have this pattern next on my list and I've chosen some red Bendigo Classic.

I, too, am jealous of your gumbies. Wantwantwant!
