Trekking Socks

It feels like a while since I've had an FO, although on reflection it is only 2 weeks, so that's not that bad (although these have been on the sticks for some time now!). These are a surprise for my sister-in-law, who is due to have her second baby at the end of August.
Details:
Yarn: Trekking XXL, col 109 (mainly purples), lot 4392 (the colour in the sunlight photos is closest to real life). Love the way the yarn stripes in a completely random way - am not sure that you could get a matching pair with this yarn, but I don't think it matters.
Pattern: My own standard size (68 st) in 2x2 rib - I think a ribbed pattern shows off this yarn best. On reflection, I should have made the legs a few cm longer - I had plenty of yarn left over - I think I got a bit bored with the seemingly unending ribbing! The socks do look kinda weird when they are off the foot (or in this case, the sock blocker) - as if for a giant with huge feet and exceptionally skinny legs.
Sticks: 2.5mm addi dpns Time: 15 April 2007 - 14 July 2007 (the horror, the horror!). Mainly these were my bus knitting project, in between a bunch of other projects (as usual!)
What I learnt: I decided to go with the eye of partridge heel on these socks, which I love - I'm pretty much a convert to this type of heel now - I really like the effect it gives (although it shows up much better in pictures than in real life!)
Now must get on to actual knitting for the baby!

Oh how gorgeous are they? I am in awe! Hey, your SIL might like to wear her new socks when she's in labour to avoid the cold feet thing :)

My first pair of socks was with trekking xxl and I love it. The colors are subtle and the yarn felt lovely. I like the purples you chose. They look comfy, just what a new mother will need. How thoughtful to think of mom and not just baby!

The socks look wonderful - the color is so pretty and the striping looks great. I, too, am a huge eye of Partridge heel fan - I love how it looks with slightly variegated yarns, the texture or something makes the colors pop a little more without getting lost in a huge pattern. I actually just tried an eye of Partridge toe, too, to match the heel, and see if it worked. It was a little trickier. in that you're working in the round, but it still looks nice. Have you seen Brooklyn Tweed's blog for some CUTE baby sweaters and booties? I'm dying to make them.

I'm going to try EoP heel with my current socks, based on your rave reviews. Sounds like a goer.

They look great. I so hope my sister brings Trekking back from Germany with her. I want some!

Beautiful socks! Love the yarn you used. The eye of the partridge heels look very nice indeed, I have to try that!

I love ribbed socks (although ribbed knitting is a pain!) and they look great in that yarn.

You know, the eye-of-partridge rocks w/that subtle color--must try it!

The socks are lovely: I have been K2P2 ribbing a lot of socks lately, rather than a complicated pattern too. I swing between the EoP and a ribbed slip stitch heel depending how I feel!!

Oh my! They are all beautiful. Your knitting is so even.

I'm completely in love with those sock blockers - what a cute silouette! (The irony that I don't like to knit socks but love the equipment isn't lost on me.) Maybe Bells' hubby can start his own cottage industry now that he's started making his own blockers : )
