In case you were wondering

Just in case you were wondering how far a single skein of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock goes, here's the answer:
I didn't want to have two small balls of yarn left over from these socks, which is what I would have had if I'd started sock 2 with the new ball of yarn. So I just kept on going with the old one (these are knitted on 2.25mm sticks, 70 stitches to a round). Of course, if I'd done the toe in the same yarn, I would have only gotten half a leg, but I do like my signature red toe (which I've decided I'll only use on husby's socks - so he's special!)

In a pre-Southern Summer of Socks update (I can't bring myself to use SSS all the time, because of it's other meaning!), I've started the gusset decreases on these babies! A sustained bout of knitting over the weekend just might see these finished...fingers crossed! (well, not literally, because that would make the knitting a bit hard!). And even if I'm not, well, heck, I'm going to start a new pair on Monday anyway!

I love that your husband has his own special brand of sock. That is such a brilliant idea!

you got that far on a single skein for man sized socks? Wow. I wish I had tried that with the LL I'm using right now. Instead, I have one small ball left over from the first.

Well your husby is special. I met him. He's nice. He deserves his own special socks!

yeah, best not to cross your fingers. that might just look silly, as well as making it difficult!

You meant SECOND SOCK SYNDROME?

It's awesome that your husband gets his own special type of socks, he must feel loved. Are you going to pick a special feature for your socks, too?

As I hate sewing in ends, I use a skein for each sock & had 2 little leftover balls. Your husband's socks look good & I really like the signature toe!

Whew - when I first read this, I thought it meant you were now out of yarn to finish the sock (ie. you'd only bought one skein in the first place). But I'm glad to see that's not the case. Love the red toes idea. Wish I had a color of my own, but I don't think crazy comes in any particular one...

I must be the only Australian blogger who isn't doing the Southern Summer of Socks (yet. I'm sure I'll jump on the bandwagon soon enough).

Nice signature toe! And it's interesting to see how far one skein will go. I always end up with those annoying, tiny balls of yarn leftovers, myself.

Wow, it goes so far it makes me wonder if I could make socks for myself with just one skein? I'll have to try it this summer (I do have very small feet)
