I am a good girl

Oh yes I am!

I went to Melbourne for the weekend to visit my friend J. Of course, get two girls together at sale time and what do you expect? Sale shopping! And, in my case, yarn shop shopping!

But factor in my ban on buying clothes/shoes until November (November!) and it means you get one very disciplined shopper. Yep, that's me, a disciplined shopper! (heh!). Even J was pretty good, only buying two tops on Friday.

That was, of course, until we went yarn shopping on Saturday...

First was the Knitter's Workshop, in Brunswick East - nice and local to J's house. Nice little shop, lots of patterns and helpful owner/staff. Didn't buy anything this time, but this was the shop where I bought the yarn for this (and at the same time J bought her first yarn and sticks since about high school - yay!)

Then Sunspun, in Canterbury - not very close to Brunswick - but what a great yarn shop - Rowan, Jaeger, Colinette, Debbie Bliss, Noro, Jo Sharp. Mmmm heaven. And fabric too! This is where J really went to town:
Yarn for a jumper for herself (DB Cashmerino Aran), a scarf for her boyfriend (wooooo) (Rowan Summer Tweed) and a scarf for herself (Rowan 4ply Soft)! I on the other hand was so restrained. This is all I bought:
2 metres of fabric, 1 ball Jo Sharp Alpaca Kid Lustre (to go with the 3 I bought at Tapestry Craft to make Backyard Leaves, just to ensure I have enough) and some lovely buttons. I am sooooo good!

Finally, to Albert Park to the Wool Baa. Another great shop with a great range of yarn. No purchases here but not because the yarn wasn't fab. I nearly bought some Kidsilk Haze just because. But again, I restrained myself. I think I deserve a medal of some sort!

(Ooh...first reply!)

I was wondering why your blog hadn't updated.

What do you plan to do with the (lovely retro) fabric?

Can I have a medal, too? I was in a fabric & yarn store this weekend in which everything was 25% off. EVERYTHING. Including loads of lovely yarn. I bought none of it. I told my 3yo, whom I was holding: "Tell Mama she doesn't need any more yarn."

"You don't need any more yarn, Mama!"

Cheers to us, Rose Red!

Highly impressed at your iron will in the face of sale yarn! You were very restrained - gold stars all round!

Love that fabric, very cute. And it must be fun to visit new yarn shops - I've ordered from Wool Baa online, but never been there in person.

And welcome, J, to the addictive world of knitting!

OMG, I was in Knitter's Workshop on Saturday morning buying yarn for a hat. We could have crossed paths! I am easily excited! Also, good work on the self-restraint.

such self control ... I am in awe.
Would this be a bad time to tell you I found the cutest "shoe money" moneybox ?

Hey Rose Red,

I am also a very good girl, I walk past Ruby and Lana twice a week on my way to picking young E up from Preschool and I look in the window and just stand there in wonder. I have made one purchase from there my size 4 crochet hook. I think that once I get to a better quality level I will splurge and buy some new yarn.

I also went into the local craft shop which sells amazing fabric and was so tempted to buy some but the price tag went against my desire.

I made a wonderful discovery in my stash the other day. Mum had given me a pile of Grandmas old hankies and I found in with them a very fine ball of crochet cotton, with the tiniest crochet hook I have ever seen, I am excitedly but also with alot of concentration using it on my attempt at a doll with a mixture of crochet and cotton. It was so nice to think that the last person that used both the cotton and hook was my Grandma, makes my project extra special.

Sadly I have not been clothes or anything shopping by myself or with a girlfriend since January 2006.

Good for you RR for showing restrain, I am so proud of you.

I hope you are feeling better soon
