Odessa

(In case you are wondering, with the exception of a small amount of chicken, I have not yet eaten meat after Ribapalooza on Sunday!)

And in other news, a quick FO post - whipped up this beanie for a friend's birthday on the weekend (yes, the Ribs place!!). (sorry about bogan head in picture - beanies so do not suit me!!)
Details
Pattern: Grumperina's Odessa, without beads. I'm not sure if I'm a beads on knitting kind of person. I have seen some lovely things with beads, but to be honest, I'm not sure if I can be bothered stringing the beads!
Yarn: 1 and a bit 50g balls of Jo Sharp Luxury 8ply DK, col 327 (navy) lot 19082 - from the stash (hurrah!)
Sticks: 4mm bamboo dpns for the rib, 4.5mm bamboo circular and dpns for the main part. (note to self, must purchase a 4mm 40cm circular stick - I'm not a big fan of larger items on dpns - just the socks!
Time: A quickie, this one! (for a change) - cast on 21 June, finished 23 June.
What I learnt: Well, clearly, not beading. This is a great pattern - very clever shaping and so easy (especially if you don't bead). Love a knit that looks hard ("how do you get the knitting to go on an angle and straight at the same time??") but is actually easy (shhhh don't tell!)

Oh I love a quick-knit - and a stylish one too! It looks good on you!

Wow - it's so pretty; and I agree about the beads; what a pain to string them!

Very nice hat! I've been contemplating making that pattern myself. I'm still deciding if I'll use beads or not.

That makes me want to knit one of those! Nice work.

Very cute hat, I'll have to check out that pattern! There is a 'add as you go' way of knitting in beads which avoids stringing them all on (a total pain) - it was described in the last issue of Yarn (Autumn 07, pg 39).

You can use a long circular needle to knit small diameter things (like the tops of hats) - use the 'magic loop' method.

How gorgeous, it looks fabulous in that yarn. What a lucky gift-ee. That patterns on my "to do" list for a while now, might have to get on with it - nad check out that magin loop thingy too.

I was the lucky gift-ee and felt very privileged to have a Rose Red original, I am now the proud owner of three items a tea cosy, a pair of socks and the beanie (my kids are also very lucky to have RR originals but that is another story! I absolutely loved the beanie and showed it to my twin sister yesterday who as RR knows has lost all her hair due to a problem with her immune system. She put it on, very hard for her to try any hats on at the shops as she risks losing her wig and she just loved it and it was striking with her wig so as it lifted her spirits I gave it to her as I knew RR would like the fact that she had made two people very happy from her beautiful handiwork. So again Thank you so much I loved it as did JL.

I was also lucky enough to receive mini splays from RR so I am prepared for any Nigella recipe RR wants to try on us! The things you suffer through in the name of friendship like eating half a pavlova just because... it tasted yummy

It is lovely, the pattern is great. :)

That is beeoootiful! Looks really snug, warm and soft! Yum! If Nigella knitted (does she?) I bet she would make that beanie!

Great hat! I might have to knit up one for me and it's a perfect one for a guy too. I'm sure I have yarn somewhere that will work.

That's lovely! And I like it without the beads, too (which sounds like a whole lot of work!).

yes I think I fit firmly in the no beads camp too ... and after making a black alpaca version of Coronet during the week, I've decided my beanie wearing days are behind me as well. Now all I have to do is figure out who it WOULD suit.
