Do I seem weird to you?

Em tagged me ages ago for the 7 weird things meme that goes around and around and around. I've been trying to think of 7 more things that I haven't already mentioned here or here. It's hard! Because I'm not weird...am I?

See what you think:

1. I love salty and sweet flavours together - think McDonalds fries dipped into McDonalds sundae ice cream. Love it! It's a taste sensation! Or raison toast with vegemite - yum!

2. I can touch type. I went to technical college at night to learn, when I was in high school. A bunch of my friends and I all went along. This might not sound that odd, but it was at a time BC (Before Computers) (or at least, before computers were on every work desk and in every household!). So we learnt on typewriters. Manual typewriters. It was a bit of a shock when we went back the next year for the advanced course and they'd upgraded to electronic typewriters. Wow. Amazing technology!!

3. When I started work we had an internal email system but no external email. You had to have a client who wanted to email you before our work IT department would allocate you an external email address. And we didn't have internet access. When we finally got it, only one person in the team could have it (that was me! Yay!). But if it crashed (as it did regularly) you had to wait at least half an hour before starting it again. And searches took, like, for-evah!

4. I don't dye my hair. It's quite grey-ish, but I don't care. I never experimented with hair dye when I was a teenager and salon jobs are so expensive. I'd rather spend the money on shoes. Or yarn.

5. I read a story recently about women going grey (ie not fighting the battle against greys). The best piece of advice was to wear silver (or white gold) jewellery. So I've been wearing a lot more silver jewellery recently. Now just have to convince husby to buy me a new wedding ring and engagement ring (since they are yellow gold).

6. I hate wearing silver and (yellow) gold jewllery together. The grey hair won't kill me, but the silver/gold combo just might!

7. I don't believe that opening an umbrella inside is bad luck. Oh, and umbrella must be pronounced "um-bar-ella". And sword must be pronounced "sword" (ie no silent w). Why? Because it's The Rules.

If anyone else feels like sharing, share away!

I learned to touch type in high school. They made us all take typing, and I believe they were manual typewriters. I actually paid attention (one of few who did), and it's a most useful skill.

When I started working, we had no email and no internet access. Later, when I worked in another nonprofit's education dept, we had email but no internet. The IT guy didn't believe we had use for it in our department. I'd go home and do internet searches for crafts and activities for my programs.

I've always preferred silver jewelry, which may be because I grew up in a town in which gold was, well, overmuch. I only wear silver or platinum (which is what my wedding rings are made of). Good to know I'm doing the right thing, since I've got quite a bit of grey, too!

I henna - and I've always preferred silver or whitegold. My wedding, engagement and eternity rings (qwhich I designed) are a combo or rose and white gold in a triskelion, and they're set with cognac diamonds - because I don't like white diamonds either - I think they look cold - and I can't afford pink ones!! - and if I'd had my druthers I really would have preferred huge rubies - or emeralds - but emeralds are too fragile - and my jeweller had the most gorgeous cognac diamonds.....) I also remember life before computers - and the internet - and microwaves and VCRs and even Cassette tape!Aaarrggghh)

I LOVE opening umbrellas inside. Gives me the same warm fuzzy glow as deleting those stupid forwarded emails!

And I really like jewellery that combines silver and gold together. I have a silver ring with small gold accents, which then makes it ok to wear silver or gold earrings (or my fave, brassy and copper colours) I tend to wear more silver than gold though.

Most definitely not weird. Re: Sweet and salty - I love chocolate and potato chips together. Love them!

I leanrt to touch type in high school too (it was called "keyboarding"), on manual typewriters. I blame this for not being able to TT now, because I do it much better when i have bounce the keys hard, rahter than just tap on a keyboard. And I cant use the little fingers very well either.

I am a total silver peson, always have been. Good luck with that #5 thing too!!

hehe, number 7 made me laugh out loud. i dont know if The Rules make you weird but they do make you funny. i think your hair is a lovely colour, and if thats what grey is then i want mine to be like that. not these stupid spikey silver bits sticking up everywhere. i look forward to seeing the matching new rings :)

That's great that you don't dye your hair as I want to do it too. Unfortunately for an Asian with black hair, greys are really prominent. I think I read the same article & thanks for the tip on wearing more silver.

No, not weird - just funny, I am so with you on the silver/gold combo - just can't do it!

I loved reading your older memes too and the one about the order you put your shoes on still has me chuckling and wondering how it started.

Hope you enjoyed your cuppa and cakey item - Mouthfuls of Heaven does that to me every time :o)

Totally agree on the silver/gold thing. I have a silver wedding ring purely for that reason!!

when I think of letting my grey shine through, I think of you and how lovely it looks on you. If only I didn't have that pesky growing out bit.

And sweet and salty is great. Peanuts and chocolate, for eg.

And I remember my early public service with no internet and no external email. My department was afraid of viruses and so we didn't have it. God I was so productive in those days. And I used to just go and talk to people. Or call people and SPEAK to them. Now I'm so lazy.

McDonald's french fries dipped into milkshakes are one of my favorites. I do color my hair and have for years. I have quite a bit of grey (or silver as Emily reminds me). I think about growing it out but my skin is so fair I'm afraid I'll disappear. I also learned to type on a manual typewriter and had one when I went through college. It took me a long time to be able to compose anything on a computer because I was used to writing it out longhand before I typed it. I remember 8 track cassettes and no vcrs. How much things have changed.

I learned to type on a manual, too, one of those big old heavy ones. The fastest typists got to graduate to the three Selectric typewriters with the jumping ball, big thrill!

I wear my silver rings on one hand, gold on the other.

OMG you are sooooooooooo weird, I just dont think I can talk to you anymore! :) hahahahahaha!

I am with you, embrace the greys people!!! But unlike you I like white and yellow gold together, although my preference as I get older is white gold. Ahhhh future husby is going to have to give me a ginormous rock set in platinum if he knows what is good for him (thump) that was me falling off chair in hysterics!!! :)

I've never been much of a fan of yellow gold jewelery, and I much prefer silver. I don't get to wear too much, as I have a tendency to break rings, and lose earrings. Jim's given me three different rings--one white gold (the setting cracked and a diamond chip fell out), one silver (i took it to a jeweler to have it sized and he destroyed it), and a titanium one. That one's still around. For now, anyway.

I think I must be your only blog reader who learned to type on a computer keyboard. I was one of the only people in my class in school who was any good at it, most of my classmates just didn't care to learn.

I hate hearing Americans pronounce sword with a hard w, but something about a foreign (to me, anyway) accent makes it sound okay. But then, I'm a sucker for exotic voices, so I could listen to someone with a pleasing voice mangle every word in the dictionary. Thanks for playing along, these memes are my guilty internet pleasure.

Sweet and salty- the best! French fries and wendy's frosty is my fix. I started going gray when I turned twenty, my sister is twenty five and already almost totally gray.
White gold is definitely the way to go- and I cannot mix. Big no no.

Yay for grey. I am greying disgracefully too. I hadn't heard about wearing silver though. Good tip!

I love peanut butter and jam sandwiches. It is probably half to do with the flavour and half to do with my Sesame Street obsession!

I don't color my hair either. But I did all through high school, 20s, etc. until I hit 30. Now I really love my natural color. Good for you!

I'm pretty sure you can have your yellow gold rings dipped in white gold. Not as fun as new jewels. But might be a temporary fix. I've contemplated it myself lately.

You can have your rings "dipped" in white gold...
